Nationally, about 20% of children aging out of the foster care system do so without a permanent family and approximately 20-25% experience homelessness. This loss of stability and a supportive family structure is something we want to END at Lighthouse Youth and Community Services.
About Us
Foster families with teens preparing to age out, foster children living in group homes or recently separated from the foster care system don’t always have a supportive family environment or the tools to help them transition into adulthood. We want to provide an environment that forms strong bonds and relationships that are safe and nurturing while connecting our clients to educational, employment, and mental health resources.
Our Mission
In the state of Wisconsin, a critical and persistent challenge exists for at-risk youth aged 13-26, particularly those who are transitioning out of foster care or have recently become separated from their families. The absence of a stable support system during this crucial phase often leads to a range of adverse outcomes, including but not limited to homelessness, unemployment, and involvement in the criminal justice system. As these vulnerable individuals age out of foster care without a permanent family, they face heightened barriers to successful adulthood, hindering their ability to access education, employment, and stable housing.
The lack of targeted resources and tailored support mechanisms exacerbates the difficulties faced by this demographic, contributing to a cycle of disadvantage that perpetuates long-lasting societal challenges. The absence of a comprehensive and specialized support system further compromises the well-being and future prospects of these young individuals, hindering their potential to break free from the challenges associated with aging out of foster care.
Addressing this issue is imperative not only for the well-being of these young people but also for the broader community. By establishing a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting at-risk youth during their transition into adulthood, we can work towards breaking the cycle of negative outcomes associated with aging out of foster care. This organization will strive to provide comprehensive assistance, empowering these young individuals with the necessary tools and resources to overcome the obstacles they face, fostering a path towards self-sufficiency, stability, and successful integration into society.

What We Want
